Czech Republic joins celebrations of International Flamenco Day for the first time

The International Flamenco Day is celebrated on 16 November and it is also the date when flamenco was added to the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. On the eve of this day, the Czech Republic will join the flamenco feast for the first time. On 15 November 2015, the Retro Music Hall will host the showcase of Czech flamenco ensembles and dance schools, as well as the Czech premiere of an international flamenco-jazz project called Flamenco Experience Sextet by the Slovak flamenco guitarist Morenito de Triana (Stano Kohútek) and the jazz bass player Tomáš Liška. The event will close with flamenco-latino dance party with DJ Ekirne, culminating at midnight and celebrating the first minutes of the International Flamenco Day as a flamenco version of the “New Year’s Eve”. The programme will be flavoured by Spanish wine and tapas.
he day before the IFD, three Prague flamenco schools will open their doors to the public and offer the possibility to learn more about flamenco. Everyone will have a chance to try the basic steps, rhythm or the most popular dance props such as castanets, fans or large scarfs called mantons and also to learn more about the theory, history and past and present of flamenco. “The International Flamenco Day is for all those who want to discover the power of music and dance full of passion and energy,” says the organiser Karol Martincová from the Fiesta Flamenca agency.
