Fifth MOVE Fest connects dance and technology

The festival of contemporary dance, new circus and physical theatre MOVE Fest returns for the fifth time to the Cultural Centre Cooltour in Ostrava. The five-day dance and movement performance marathon features shows from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, shielded by the theme of dance – new media – technology. The programme including five full-length productions and several off-programme events, starts on Wednesday 23 May 2018. One of the festival highlights is Kolaps by the new circus group Losers Cirque Company.

MOVE FEST, happening for the fifth time at the Cultural Centre Cooltour, focuses on the issue of technologies and new media and offers five full-length productions and many off-programme events. The concept of the marathon of contemporary dance, new circus and physical theatre makes once again locally non-conformist pieces available to audiences of all ages.
The festival opens on Wednesday 23 May with a piece called Everywhen, which reacts to current growing tendencies of opinion clashes between generations or social groups. Thursday’s You are here deals with the theme of the best invention ever – the human body.
Friday 25 May belongs to Kolaps, performed by the new circus ensemble Losers Cirque Company. “We know how much these “circus people” are popular in Ostrava.  We decided to move their show to the Ostrava Cultural Centre which offers three times more seats than our base in Cooltour. Even though the title sounds very serious, the Losers transform it into a piece full of hope,” explains the festival director Jana Ryšlavá.

The list of events mentioned above will be completed by a Slovak contemplation WOW. It reflects the fact that we have conquered nature and even space, but we still get lost on our small planet. The Sunday story O medvědovi, který plul na kře (The bear who floated on a floe) will close the fifth edition of MOVE Fest 2018.
Besides evening shows, there will be an off-programme full of workshops. The highlight comes on Saturday with a floor and pair acrobatics class given by the  Losers. “The instructors promise that in one afternoon they can show the attendees how - with some enthusiasm and patience - it is possible to do somersaults or flips, though the time we did them naturally is long gone,” adds Petr Kiška, producer of the festival. On Saturday you can also enjoy a the festival’s birthday party.
