Szóló Duo International Dance Festival 2012
Our Festival gives opportunity for individual dancers and dance groups to realise their artistic concepts and through this event they will get a feedback that they can use for developing themselves.
Continuing the traditions of the previous festivals, we would like to keep at our goals that apart from some regulations the dance groups can perform their shows without restrictions. All the performances will be evaluated by a professional jury and the audience.

HOLLAND DANCE FESTIVAL 2012

26 JAN-26 FEB 2012
Holland Dance is constantly on the move and stages numerous dance activities for a wide-ranging audience all year round. All of these activities find their climax in the Holland Dance Festival. The biennial editions have received a new niche in the season; the next edition will be held from 26 January thru 26 February 2012 in The Hague.
In addition to a podium for presentation, Holland Dance is also producer, coproducer and instigator of dance projects. The promotion of dance, with special attention for amateurs and education is a guiding principal in all of Holland Dance’s activities.

The Holland Dance Festival Gala promises to be a truly unique evening. The programme has strong links to the festival's theme, Source of Inspiration, and comprises a selection of the very best that dance has to offer. You can look forward, for instance, to performances by the international dance legend Sylvie Guillem and the wonderfully sexy dance couple Drew Jacoby and Rubinald Pronk, who are currently based in New York.
But the Dutch dance companies are also performing lots of special works for the gala, such as Introdans with the hypnotic In Memoriam by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Nederlands Dans Theater 2 with the infectious Shutters Shut by Lightfoot/Leon. The gala is also presenting a unique performance of Moor's Pavane by Jose Limon, danced by the Limon Dance Company from New York. This masterpiece from 1949 still enjoys great status as a classic of American modern dance.
GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM
23.-26.2. 2012, Hellerau, Dresden
The HELLERAU festival hall stands for innovation in movement, perhaps more than any other theatre in Germany. Here, 100 years ago, Émile Jaques-Dalcroze founded his Rhythmics School, Adolphe Appia created the prototype open stage, Alexander von Salzmann developed his revolutionary and legendary system of lighting and Heinrich Tessenow designed the imposing architecture with its inspired symmetry and balance. Today HELLERAU is certainly the premier location for contemporary dance in eastern Germany. We are pleased to be able to share this unique venue with the international dance community during the GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM 2012.
Unlike in previous years, the programme of the GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM 2012 was not entirely determined by the jury. For the first time, the DANCE PLATFORM’s co-organizers invited some additional, internationally renowned companies to take part: The Forsythe Company, Constanza Macras / Dorky Park, Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods and Sasha Waltz & Guests are among the most esteemed and influential representatives of German dance theatre.
The jury’s selection of ten very diverse, outstanding choreographies forms a cross-section of nearly all styles and formats current in contemporary German dance. An additional ten choreographers will also profile their work in newly introduced pitching sessions.
One more new element is featured in the side programme: a premiere by the Semperoper Ballett of choreographies by William Forsythe. This will offer our guests the opportunity to visit the world famous Semper Opera and is a conscious move on our part to stretch the bounds of the DANCE PLATFORM concept and open it to ballet.
We would like to thank all those who have helped to realize the GERMAN DANCE PLATFORM 2012 in Dresden, especially Staatsschauspiel Dresden for their cooperation, and look forward with them to welcoming many guests from all over the world.

43. Kuopio Dance Festival

43. Kuopio Dance Festival will offer something exotic from India, contemporary dance from Brazil, ballet from Poland and the USA and premieres from Finland.
The programme of the Kuopio Dance Festival for the summer’s main venue, Kuopio Music Center concert hall, has been confirmed.
The Festival will open with a collaboration piece by Artistic Director Jorma Uotinen and conductorAtso Almila - it is a premiere with the Kuopio City Orchestra playing the musical score, composed by Atso Almila, and choreographed by Jorma Uotinen.
From the home-grown premiere the programme will smoothly move on to Indian exoticism, as the internationally acclaimed Ranganiketan dance company from Manipur takes to the main stage. The company’s repertoire includes spectacular traditional and tribal dances, and acrobatic sword and drum dances.
Contemporary dance is represented in the programme by Brazilian Cia Sociedade Masculina, whose one of the choreographers is Jomar Mesquita who wowed the crowds last summer in Kuopio with his Mimulus company.
The latter part of the Festival week on the main stage is reserved for ballet.
The hugely successful, American Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo will bring to Kuopio technically high-flying classical ballet with a pinch of parody and humour, and a nod to the times when the stage was an exclusively male domain. The company was founded in 1974, and its male members dance both the male and the female ballet roles in a manner of parody while maintaining technically top-drawer professionalism. The company’s appearances have included the Bolshoi theatre and the Lyon biennale.
After Trockadero, the auditorium will be taken over by the Polish National Ballet, whose repertoire includes both classical and neoclassical ballet, as well as contemporary dance. Among other pieces, Kuopio will see the internationally successful modern ballet Kurt Weill by the company’s Artistic Director Krzysztof Pastor.
- Group bookings for these shows will start in December, says the Executive Director of the Festival,Anna Pitkänen. - The structure of the summer’s programme will be different from the previous ones, as the second main venue of the Festival, the City Theatre, is unavailable due to refurbishment. In their stead, the chamber music hall at the Music Center and Kulttuuriareena 44 will be used for smaller scale pieces, Pitkänen continues. The programme for these venues will be published in January.
The Festival will also offer extensive training courses and the course programme for professionals, amateurs and beginners will be published in February.
Please see the main programme on our website from the end of January, the course programme from the end of February, and the fringe programme later in the spring. Book your accommodation in time – there is a link on our website to Visit lakeland.
