This November New Europe Festival and Jarmila Jeřábková Award again

This year the International Festival of Contemporary Dance and Movement Theatre and also the choreographic competition of original dance work are organized again: 15th year of the New Europe Festival, which is associated with Jarmila Jeřábková Award, will be held from 20 to 24 November 2015. The programme of the biennale will take place in Duncan Centre, Experimental Space NoD and the Disk theatre.
During four evenings the festival will introduce a display of contemporary dance and dance theatre from the countries of the New Europe (countries of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe), from which last members of the European Union were recruited. According to the registered works the jury will select 6 – 7 finalists who will present their works at the festival. The new choreography will be created to the music by the Czech composer Ivana Loudová. Both works will then compete for Jarmila Jeřábková Award. Three winning works that will receive Jarmila Jeřábková Award will be presented at the final gala evening of the festival.
The application deadline for the competition is May 15 – details can be found on our website:

The festival used to take place every year, but in 2012 it was cancelled due to financial reasons. Next year it was organized again but the festival and the award became biennial. The tradition of Jarmila Jeřábková Award was founded in 1999 by Duncan Centre to create a platform for young choreographers and dancers from Central and Eastern Europe. Since 2007 the festival has been organized as well. The essential feature of the competition, which remains part of the festival, is a mandatory part – a work inspired by the music of Czech composers of the late 20th century. The order of the original work, which complements the presentation of free art by the registered choreographers, became an invaluable stimulus for many participants. Half of each of the three awarded prizes is a contribution to the new work. The competition initiates and supports new works created by award-winning choreographers and it allows them to present their work next year. Jarmila Jeřábková, after whom the award is named, was one of the most important pioneers of modern dance in the Czech Republic; she was a student of Elizabeth Duncan, who was Isadora´s sister. Duncanism found its way into the Czech dance just through Jarmila Jeřábková. More about the festival, competition and Jarmila Jeřábková on: http://www.cjj.ecn.cz/
