Following last year’s success of Dancing Grandmothers, the 31st edition of the TANEC PRAHA International Festival of Contemporary Dance and Movement Theatre welcomes again the Korean choreographer Eun-Me Ahn with her new piece Let Me Change Your Name. She will open the Prague festival with three shows in Ponec Theatre, from 3 to 5 June. The festival closes on 24 June and besides Prague, it will be hosted by twenty Czech cities and towns. For more information, see www.tanecpraha.cz.

“The return of the lively and nonconformist Korean choreographer and her fabulous dancers is a great honour for us. We’ve managed to incorporate the Czech Republic into her European tour, including negotiations on her collaboration with the festival Divadelní svět Brno in late May. In regions, we offer other spectacular productions, both Czech and international. We’ve been impressed by artists from Africa, Indonesia, Europe and, last but not least, from Israel, the Mecca of dance,” says Yvona Kreuzmannová, director and founder of TANEC PRAHA.
We could see the world-renowned creator perform at the 30th anniversary edition of the festival, where she danced in her own piece Dancing Grandmothers. Eun-Me Ahn experienced traditional Korean upbringing, but very early in her life she discovered other styles than shamanic traditions - the world of Isadora Duncan and “Western” dance. She resolved to study dance in New York and lived there for a couple of years. She became close to Pina Bausch who would invite her regularly to Wuppertal since the early 2000s. In Korea, she was the director of the Teg (Daeg) company and choreographed the opening ceremonies of the FIFA World Cup (2002). She has gained international renown for her trilogy dedicated to Korean grandmothers, teenagers, and mature men.
