“The repertoire still features 25 productions from the past seasons. Some of the new productions could be played only several times, some of them premiered only before the lockdown. We need to get everything working and reintroduce glamour, energy, and charm! One huge restart! The 103rd season starts on 19 August 2021 with the return of the production of West Side Story, one of the most successful musicals of all time. We were able to play only several reruns after the premiere in February 2020, then came the first ban, the start of the past season was interrupted by the second ban, so we have been rehearsing since the beginning of August and we are virtually working from the very beginning, like when you prepare a new production,” said Jiří Nekvasil, the director of the theatre and the musical.
“We believe that the 103rd season will be a true restart for all of us and we will play all premieres we have planned. Some of them have been moved from two seasons ago, some of them should have been staged in the past season and the companies were working on them hard,” said Jiří Nekvasil, the NMST director.
Fans of romantic dance stories will be excited by the ballet Le Corsaire by Adolphe-Charles Adam and Joris Barcaroli, with the choreography by Michel Bejar. The first performance is on 16 September. The NMST ballet company will offer Memories of Mahler the Norwegian choreographer Jo Strømgren created for the Ostrava ballet with its dancers in Ostrava. The ballet is inspired by the life of the famous conductor and composer. Carmen with music by Rodion Shchedrin and Georges Bizet will premiere in May 2022.
