Czech Dance Platform 2019.
The 31st edition of TANEC PRAHA International Festival of Contemporary Dance and Movement Theatre 2019, which will take place from 3 to 22 June 2019 in Prague and other 20 Czech towns, already knows its main programme and its visual. At the press conference hosted by the Ponec Theatre, with the participation of the Korean choreographer Eun-Me Ahn, the organisers revealed the festival’s main programme, they presented its main lines and the visual identity of the campaign. Concurrently, they announced the programme of the 25th anniversary spring festival Czech Dance Platform (1 – 4 April) which offers the best of Czech contemporary dance and physical theatre. TANEC PRAHA Festival is attractive for emerging talents as well as world-renowned, mature artists who often come back to perform at the event. The return of the vivacious and nonconformist Korean choreographer Eun-Me Ahn who excited the audiences at the end of last year’s edition with her piece Dancing Grandmothers, is an undeniable success. This year, she will open the festival at Ponec Theatre on 3 - 5 June with her production Let Me Change Your Name.
“With some prominent artists we have special relationships, it’s certainly because the festival organisers are active in many international networks and projects of European cooperation. We have to turn down many offers, and still we are one of the most active subjects in the countries of the former Eastern Bloc within the Creative Europe programme. We enjoy valuable exchange of experience inside networks such as European Dancehouse Network (EDN), Aerowaves (dance accross Europe) or IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting, and we are also active partners of two key projects of European cooperation, which reflect in our essential activities - the festivals and all-year activities of PONEC: be SpectACTive 2 and Dancing Museums 2. In the summer we will be awaiting the results of the next round of the Creative Europe programme. We have submitted one project and at the same time we partnered the London application. Of course, we don’t know what Brexit will do about it…,” says Yvona Kreuzmannová, the director and founder of TANEC PRAHA.
This year, TANEC PRAHA festival comes with a new visual identity of its campaign. It has been created in collaboration with the Comtech Can agency and the photographer Bára Prášilová, nominated for the Czech Grand Design Award in the category ‘Photographer of the Year’.
Every year, the festival Czech Dance Platform draws more attention of local and international professional artists. It is a great opportunity for networking, as it invites for intensive international and national meetings and collaborations. This year’s 25th edition will be held from 1 to 4 April at PONEC, ALTA Studio, Alfred in the Courtyard theatre, Centre of Contemporary Art DOX+, Small Hall of the Trade Fair Palace of the National Gallery, La Fabrika and Studio Hrdinů. The programme will feature two international co-productions that premiered at TANEC PRAHA Festival 2018 - Útočiště by Farm in the Cave and a piece by the Belgian choreographer Karine Ponties SAME SAME.
“The 25th anniversary of Czech Dance Platform has inspired us to look back to the mid-90’s when contemporary dance was at the threshold of professionalisation and it had to struggle for at least basic conditions to survive. Its boom in the last decade is fantastic and I must say this year we have the strongest programme in the history of this event, featuring great names of our dance scene along with new promising talents,” adds Yvona Kreuzmannová.
