Tanec Praha opens 19th season of PONEC Theatre with prospects of new rehearsal space snd two new grants

On Wednesday, 18 September, PONEC – theatre for dance will be hosting local artists, partners and contemporary dance lovers in a rather unconventional fashion. It will open its 19th season with a season presentation and a site-specific project unfolding in the spirit of the theatre’s subtitle Ponec: One space, more opinions and granting space to artists associated with the venue as well as young talents and graduates. The theme is nothing less than ‘freedom’. Freedom of movement and expression, freedom of thoughts, and free space.

“During the season opening, we will disclose some of our bold plans, such as setting up our very own rehearsal space and facilities in close proximity to the theatre, a dream come true thanks to our new partner,” says Yvona Kreuzmannová, the director and founder of Tanec Praha, and continues: “The line-up of artists who are involved in the project speaks for itself, on the gala night we will be joined by Barbora Látalová, Tereza Ondrová, Viktor Černický, Markéta Jandová, Lenka Kniha Bartůňková, Sabina Bočková, Johana Pocková, tYhle, Lunchmeat, Martin Talaga, Daniela Voráčková and others.“

This summer, Brussels announced the results of the call for European Cooperation Projects 2019 within the Creative Europe - Culture programme. In the category of two-year projects, 87 were selected out of the total of 300 candidates. Being one of the chosen ones, Tanec Praha won the 17th place with the project Micro and Macro Dance Dramaturgies. The programme offers valuable exchange of experience, coaching and professional development to choreographers and potential dance dramaturges from five European countries (Czech Republic, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and Cyprus).

In addition, Tanec Praha succeeded as the partner of the Shape It project, focusing on adapting selected works by young European choreographers for junior audiences. The leader is The Place in London and the project has achieved the 3rd place. It interconnects partners from four European countries (Great Britain, Czech Republic, Italy and Finland).

“It is a great acknowledgement for the entire team. We receive many offers to join upcoming EU projects, and we choose carefully what might become the best contribution to our dance scene. We are members of two networks (IETM, EDN), one platform (Aerowaves) and partners in two long-term European projects (Be SpectACTive! and Dancing Museums), so last year we joined ‘only’ two small projects which gave our dance scene exactly what it needed,” says Kreuzmannová.
