HAMU opens part-time programme in dance pedagogy

After thirty years, the Music and Dance Faculty reopens a distance learning programme  - a part-time BA degree in Dance pedagogy will be available starting in the 2020/2021 academic year. The combined form consists in regular weekend courses delivered once in a month, with intensive sessions at the end of each academic year. Unlike the full-time programme, the part-time study includes a new major, Dance Education, besides the existing courses in Classical dance, Folk dance and Modern and Contemporary dance. Students can now enroll directly in one of the four units.

“We react to the urgent need in the industry to combine professional commitments with further education,“ explains the head of the Dance Department, prof. Václav Janeček, the long-time endeavour to open a part-time study programme. “In some respects, this course will be more challenging, as it requires a high degree of independence and is targeted at professional artists with serious interest in methodological education. It is suited to mature individuals with professional dance experience.“

The aim of the combined study is to enable active dancers and dance teachers to pursue systematic higher education in the field of dance pedagogy. Students, who can simultaneously devote themselves to their profession and gain necessary stage experience, will be offered methodically structured training in the field of dance education.

Deadline for applications is 30 March 2020.
