Craig Peterson, Director of Programs at New York City's Gibney Dance, will discuss the current challenges of curating, presenting and supporting the performance community in NYC. Gibney Dance began as a small dance company 25 years ago. In the past 5 years the organization has expanded from one dance studio to two centers with 16 studios and three performance venues. This physical expansion has given rise to myriad programs that include training, presenting, residencies and a vast network of community partners - making it one of NYC's most vibrant cultural centers for dance and performance. Peterson will discuss this history and expansion, explaining the strategic approaches Gibney has utilized to sustain itself and grow, with a particular focus on program infrastructures that are supportive to local, national and international artist communities.
